New TV suggestions welcome

PostTue Feb 14, 2017 7:09 pm

I am doing some research and looking for some input on a new TV for my living room. I welcome any personal experience you guys have or knowledge you can offer.
Currently I am looking at 65 inch 4k TVs. So naturally I've just been really researching the big 2, Samsung and LG.
LG offers OLED and Samsung has its quantum dot stuff for its upper end 4k TVs.

Downsides of LG:
There is input lag so gaming is worse on the LG
There is after image and image burn chances. So if an image stays on a screen for a while it can take a bit to fade and also if it stays for long periods of time it can burn into the TV.(pausing a game or leaving it on overnight)
LG is also more expensive and appears as it will have shorter life span. (5 to 10ish years)
It can have a slight jitter for some movies.

The upside of LG:
It has a much wider viewing angle up to 83 degrees from center before seeing any picture distortion.
It has a darker more true black and no halo effect (white around a lite object on a black background.)
The interface for the LG is better then Samsung.
Rated to currently have the best picture quality of all TVs.

Downsides of Samsung:
Low viewing angle. You basically have to be directly in front of the TV for best view. If you are off to the side at all the contrast will drop quickly. It starts dropping as soon as 19 degrees from center.
The interface is good but not as high rated as LG
Lighter blacks since it is a LED style TV and can give the halo effect.
Thicker and heavier TV then LG
Will most likely have to get a curved not a flat panel which has its own list of downsides and upsides.
Slight more image blurring on fast moving images

Upsides of Samsung:
Better for gaming then LG since no input lag
Cheaper than LG with longer life expectancy in its high end models.
No lingering image or chance at image burn
Has a detached brain (hub) so only need one cord running to the TV.

These are the things I've found so far that sway the decision. If any of you have one of these TVs and can give testament to it, it would be treaty appreciated.

I have a 70" Vizio P series from a few years ago and it's been pretty great. I don't game on it though, but one of the inputs has 30ms input or something. I don't have any input on LG or Samsung.

Is that input lag that noticeable?

Seems fine for Mario Kart, that's the only thing that gets played on it, lol.

This seems reasonably appropriate: what kind of monitors do you guys play on? I currently have 2 21.5s, but kind of want my entire face immersed in the game sometimes. Anyone have anything in the 28+ realm that works for them?
